Cost Plus World Market Launches New Teacher Discount Program

San Francisco Bay Area teachers to save 10% off purchases and receive exclusive offers and news

Oakland, CA — February 26, 2009 — Cost Plus World Market is pleased to announce the launch of its new Teacher Discount Program for teachers and administrators in the San Francisco and Oakland Unified School Districts. Beginning March 2, 2009, Bay Area educators can apply to receive a 10% off discount card (excludes gift cards and alcoholic beverages) for Cost Plus World Market stores to make purchasing cultural arts education supplies more convenient and affordable throughout the school year.

A visit to Cost Plus is an adventure around the world – shoppers can discover hand-carved masks from Ghana, artisan crafted baskets from Indonesia, chocolates from Switzerland, and soaps from Portugal. The Teacher Discount Program provides educators an affordable opportunity to bring items from around the world into the classroom to showcase cultural and global communities, furthering multi-cultural education.

“Cost Plus World Market is dedicated to providing the resources to help students succeed. And, as more and more budgets are tightened or cut, we’re pleased to support our teachers’ efforts to promote the world’s cultures as well as creativity in the classroom,” says Barry Feld, Chief Executive Officer of Cost Plus World Market. Recognizing the need in schools, this program comes on the heels of the Company’s recent 50th Anniversary celebration and donation to the two Bay Area school districts to support cultural arts education.

Cost Plus is partnering with the superintendents from both the San Francisco and Oakland Unified School Districts to invite teacher participation. At the beginning of March, each superintendent will receive information kits outlining the benefits and instructions on how their district’s teachers may enroll in the Teacher Discount Program.

During key cultural months, Cost Plus World Market will host teacher appreciation days offering in-store discounts as well as ideas and inspiration for lesson plans and creative projects. With over 10,000 teachers and administrators in the San Francisco and Oakland Unified School Districts, this program will support more than 200 schools and thousands of students.
