Cost Plus World Market Takes the Confusion Out of Wine Selection with the Launch of "Foodies," Its Latest Line of Wines from California


Initial launch to include Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon

Oakland, CA — January 23, 2008 — When it comes to choosing a wine to best complement a meal there are so many rules, including white wine with white meat and red wine with red meat. Now, experts say break the rules and pair any wine with any dish, which can confuse most people. World Market takes away the confusion and intimidation out of selecting a wine with the launch of its new line of wines aptly named “Foodies.”

Launching nationally in stores in early March 2008 and created just for food and wine enthusiasts of all levels, the line up includes California Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon and will retail for $7.99 per 750ml bottle (prices vary slightly by market.) The whimsical wine labels feature illustrations that make it clear to the consumer which wine pairs best with what meat. A rooster on the Chardonnay, a pig on the Merlot and a cow on the Cabernet Sauvignon?each label has a diagram of the different cuts of meat.

The 2006 Foodies Chardonnay has elegant fruit forward flavors with a crisp finish making it a perfect choice to pair with that legendary recipe for roast chicken and garlic smashed potatoes. The 2005 Foodies Merlot has balanced black fruit and ripe plum flavors with a dash of smoky spice ? we suggest trying it with a savory slow-cooked pork roast or barbeque ribs. The Foodies 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon has rich black fruits enhanced by subtle hints of plum and mint, an ideal partner to deliciously rich filet mignon.
